A good-sized 19th century French model of Acteon. Acteon in Greek mythology was a famous Theban hero and a huntsman. He later turned from huntsman to the hunted when he was transformed into a stag and his hounds tore him apart.

Born in Paris Laporte studied under Dumont and made his debut at the Salon in 1881 and exhibited there regularly until 1906.
