Alabaster Statue of a Woman with Amphora By Pugi, Italian c. 1890

 
Beautifully refined Alabaster sculpture of a female water carrier with an amphora, made with different materials of alabaster and marble. Exquisite detail to her hands and face, she is wearing a headscarf and draped robe.  Signed by the Italian sculptor Guglielmo Pugi, Late 19th century. Circa 1890
 
Guglielmo Pugi (1850-1915):
Born in Tuscany in Fiesole, worked in Florence where he has his studio-atelier,
Many works created by the sculptor were made for the foreign market, especially towards the United States.   In 1901 he participated in the Buffalo Fair in New York and in 1904 in Missouri at the Exposition Universelle.
